Company's History  


1951
Claus-Holmer Gerdes started his business in Lüneburg.

1956
The company was registered at the Lüneburg commercial register under 'Claus-Holmer Gerdes - hot water appliances and taps'. The first instantaneous water heater S1..3 with integrated water stop-valve and bare-element system pioneered cold water taps into hot water faucets.

1959
A new business building in bungalow style is put up in Pirolweg 1.

1961
Key component of the U1 small instantaneous water heater is a highly efficient bare-heating cartridge, offering an easy repair and replacement operation.

The round-shaped U2-N de Luxe sold successfully in Germany and other countries worldwide.

1975
Following the founder`s early death, his widow Ursel Gerdes took over the company. After a few hard years of new orientation, the company was newly established at todays premises at Pirolweg, D-Lüneburg

1978
More than 10,000 units of the U2-N de Luxe model are annually sold on more than 40 trade shows.

1981
The square-sided M1 compact instantaneous water heater was successfully introduced and continuously replaced the former round-shape heater form. The production of U2-N stops in 1985.

1986
Both sons, Jörg and Joachim joined the company. The M1 model gain more and more reputation as a water and energy-saving unit.

1988
In order to further develop the potential of CLAGE`s ecological motives, the distribution is changed over to the specialized trade. A modern office building is added to enlarge the company.

1989
CLAGE instantaneous water heaters become very popular in the New Laender of Germany. To develop the export business, the new C series is introduced equipped with a tubular heating element with further models following to upgrade the range.

1990
Within only 3 years the number of heaters sold triples up to nearly 100,000 units.

1991
The company's premises triple by taking over neighbour buildings.

1992
CLAGE was newly registered as CLAGE GmbH, commercial register
n° HRB1159. A branch office opens in Dresden.

1994
The new electronic instant water heater DX18..27 sets innovative accents: An outstanding design and, for the first time, a touch control panel with new comfort in use finds general and large approval. The M1 series is modernized by the improved M3..7 range. The new company logo supports the CLAGE competence.

Foundation of CLAGE s.r.o. at Praha, CLAGE's 1st foreign affiliated company abroad.

1996
CLAGE Polska Sp. z o.o. is founded.

1997
The M3..7 model obtains the Ecology-Design Award for Best of Category in the field of Home Appliances. The electronic DX series receives at the same time a design award for outstanding shape by the 'Design-Center of Nordrhein-Westfalen'.

1998
A modern high-level warehouse with store places for 600 pallets is put in operation. The company is certified for the Quality System of development, manufacturing, marketing and after-sales service acc. to DIN EN ISO 9001:1994 by the VDE Institute Germany.

1999
CLAGE launches the new CX series in power categories from 3 to 13.5 kW. The new CBH11 becomes the first instantaneous water heater especially designed for kitchen sinks, the CBX13 is completing the middle segment with an unique electronic control.

>2002
After a successful period of more than 20 years, the upgraded new generation of MH (open outlet) and MDH (closed outlet) series is put on the market.

2003
To complete the electronically controlled instantaneous water heater series DX, CLAGE launches the type DLX 24. The special feature of this appliance is the MutiplePowerSystem MPS°, whereby the professional can set up the connection power upon installation depending on the electric power supply available at site.

CLAGE takes over the sales and distribution of ZIP Hyroboil and is presenting the first instant boiling water heaters for undersink installation. At the touch of the electronic tap the model dispenses instant boiling water as well as chilled water from the same tap.

2005
CLAGE took the opportunity to present its second generation of electronically controlled instantaneous water heaters on the International Trade Fair ISH. The completely new developed innovative series comprises three different equipped types: DSX, DEX and DBX. The top model DSX SERVOTRONIC MPS° sets new standards as for design, handling comfort and equipment.

2007
After a construction time of 18 months, the new sophisticated designed building has been finished centralising all sectors of the company under one innovative complex of buildings. Due to this capital investment the number of employees is exceeding 100.
The international Design Prize "Focus Energy" in silver is awarded to the electronically controlled instantaneous water heater DSX by the Design Center Stuttgart. The appliance is also nominated for the official design prize 2008 awarded by the Federal Republic of Germany.

2008
The propotion of the electrically controlled instant hot water heaters has now reached more than 40 %. In order to meet the increased requirements in a flexible way - under the condition of keeping high quality – all electronic circuit boards are now manufatured by CLAGE. For this purpose a new production line – called surface mounting device (SMD) – was installed in Lueneburg.
